Fresh from his own confirmation of the news at the weekend, HBO have today confirmed that Colin Farrell will be appearing in the second season of the incredibly popular crime drama True Detective and they’ve also revealed that Vince Vaughn will be there with him.

Farrell and Vaughan are the only two cast members revealed so far and we now know a little more about the role that the Dubliner will play, namely Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Vaughan, meanwhile, will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Additional casting will be announced as soon as it is confirmed but HBO did reveal that Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes of the eight-episode season and that this season will revolve around three police officers and a career criminal navigating a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Farrell, Vaughn and whoever else comes on board have big shoes to fill after the efforts of McConaughey, Harrelson and company in the first season we can’t wait to find out whether they’ll measure up.

Production on the second season of True Detective will begin in California before the end of the year.
