WATCH: Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams unite for one of 2019’s first unmissable new shows

Paul Moore

Fosse/Verdon

Just two of the greatest actors alive working together.

There’s a very finite list of members that can call themselves a patron of a very exclusive acting club. You know, ‘The Group for Actors That Are Great in Everything They Do.’

Granted, it’s not an official club but in the eyes of film fans and TV lovers, this group is a very important one.

As stated in our preview of the best news shows for 2019, the extremely talented duo of Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams will be playing the leads in Fosse/Verdon and this looks like it has all the hallmarks of an instant favourite.

To begin with, you’ve got Sam Rockwell.

A man that oozes charm and has absolutely nailed everything that he’s been in.

Moon, The Way Way Back, Galaxy Quest, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Choke – it doesn’t matter if it’s drama or comedy, he’s just great.

Aside from this, there’s the extremely talented Michelle Williams – an actress that’s so good, her memorable scene with Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea conveyed more emotion, drama, and pathos than 99% of other films. Oh yeah, that scene was pretty much completely silent.

Aside from this, Williams has been nominated for four Oscars and is undoubtedly one of the finest performers of her generation.

Truth be told, these two could star in an adaptation of somebody reading the phone book and we would watch it, however, it helps that the story of Fosse/Verdon sounds very promising.

The limited series tells the story of the singular romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon.

Rockwell will be playing Bob Fosse, the famed choreographer and director, as he pushes the professional and emotional limits with his wife, Broadway star Gwen Verdon, played by Michelle Williams.

Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda is also involved as an executive producer on this one and the first trailer promises sex, dancing, jazz hands, and a whole lot of acting talent.

Fosse/Verdon is set for an April release in the US.

Take it away.
