WATCH: Thousands of Irish people auditioned be Game of Thrones extras today

Carl Kinsella

There are many TV series at the moment that inspire the same kind of fervour as HBO’s Game of Thrones, so it was no real surprise when thousands of Irish people lined up in Dublin City today for their chance to be an extra on the show.

An open audition for extras for Game of Thrones and other shows took place in the capital today, and RTÉ was on hand to speak to a few of the hopefuls lined up to show off their acting chops.

By the looks of things, most of the people in the queue were hoping to feature on Game of Thrones, a show with filming locations all across Northern Ireland.

Speaking to RTÉ Emma Sweeney, the managing director of The Extras Department, said that “if you’re on our books then you’ve a chance of being selected,” which is great news for anyone who turned up today.

Season 7 of the show drops on the 16th of July this year, so any extras would be featuring the show’s eighth and final season, scheduled to hit our screens in 2018.
