Who will sit on the Iron Throne? Odds revealed on the big question in the final season of Game of Thrones

Iron Throne odds

The end of Game of Thrones is coming.

We’ve had to wait long enough, but the countdown to the final season of Game of Thrones, surely one of the most anticipated TV events of all time, has now entered the final month.

In the build-up to the finale, millions of fans of the series all over the world are asking all sorts of questions:

What major character will be next to meet an untimely end? How can anyone possibly cope with the ice dragon? How will Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen deal with the realisation they’re related?

The biggest question of all, of course, is who will sit on the Iron Throne when all is said and done.

Despite the vast amount of theories doing the rounds, it is a credit to the writers that nobody really knows how it’s going to play out six episodes out from the end game.

Speculating about the eventual occupant of the Iron Throne is all part of the fun, of course and with that in mind, Paddy Power have assigned odds to all the leading contenders, as well as those heading the chasing pack, in the race to rule the seven kingdoms.

Bran Stark leads the race at odds of 6/4, followed by any child of Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen at 2/1 and the man himself not far behind on 3/1.

Daenerys Targaryen looks a solid bet at 5/1, while key figures like Tyrion Lannister (8/1), The Night King (10/1), Cersei Lannister (12/1), Arya Stark (14/1), Sansa Stark (18/1) and Jaime Lannister (22/1) are all in the shake-up.

Outside of the runners and riders above, Paddy Power certainly aren’t ruling out Jon Snow-esque comebacks from some beloved characters from previous seasons as the likes of Petyr Baelish (33/1), Hodor (40/1), Catelyn Stark (200/1) and resurrected Ned Stark (33/1) can all be backed to claim the Iron Throne despite the fact that they are, eh, *SPOILER ALERT* dead.

A spokesperson for Paddy Power said:

“There’s only one type of throne we’re familiar with and I can assure you it’s not made of Iron. As for the character most likely to sit on the Game of Thrones version, it looks like Bran Stark at 6/4 is the hottest contender followed closely by any of Jon Snow or Aegon Targaryen’s offspring.”

You can see the full market here and as well as that, we’ve enlisted the assistance of the one and only Aidan Gillen* (who played Petyr Baelish in the show) to talk you through the movers and shakers in the race for the Iron Throne.

*Not actually Aidan Gillen*
