The Young Offenders has been nominated for an incredibly prestigious award

The Young Offenders

G’wan Conor and Jock!

During the first season of The Young Offenders, there was that memorable moment when the two lads tried to rob and transport a gigantic fish.

It was at this point when the world knew that Conor and Jock were the greatest minds of their generation. Na, feck that!

Those two langers couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery but damn do they make us laugh.

Since airing earlier this year, Peter Foott’s TV show has really resonated with viewers because amid all the shifting, thieving, cursing, flashing, chasing, and acting the maggot, there’s a massive degree of heart and good-natured fun.

On that note, we defy anyone not to be moved by the episode that focused on Mairead and how much Jock misses his own mam.

Well, just like the film, The Young Offenders TV show is now an international hit because it has been nominated for a prestigious Rose d’Or award.

To put this achievement into context, nearly 500 programmes from around the world are submitted for nomination. From this list, The Young Offenders was selected to compete in the best sitcom category.

In terms of the competition, Conor and Jock will be up against Detectorists, The Windsors, and Magda macht das schon! (Despite not seeing any of these shows, we’re confident in saying that The Young Offenders is infinitely better!)

Speaking about the nomination, Peter Foott, creator of The Young Offenders, has said: “The Rose d’Or Awards are highly respected internationally, and it’s a huge honour to receive a nomination for The Young Offenders in the sitcom category alongside some truly amazing shows. The whole team is thrilled with the nomination, and we’re always grateful to BBC3 for all their support.”

Elsewhere, Peaky Binders, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Black Mirror have also been nominated in various different categories.

Here’s hoping that Cillian Murphy shows up to the event and all the lads get to continue their mutual love-in.

Fair play to all involved. Cracking achievement.
