Eagles’ Greatest Hits has become the best-selling album of all time

Rudi Kinsella

Eagles

What an achievement.

Eagles can now boast that they have the best-selling album of all time. The band’s greatest hits moved past Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and now has the top spot.

The Recording Industry Association of America told The Associated Press on Monday that the Eagles’ album titled Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is now certified 38x platinum. In other words, the album has been sold 38 million copies.

Not bad at all.

Thriller had sold 33 million, so the American band are comfortably in the top spot at the moment.

What’s perhaps even more impressive is that Eagles’ Hotel California is third on the list, having sold 26 million copies.

Occupying two of the top three spots is pretty damn impressive…

They don’t do too badly on Spotify either. ‘Hotel California’ has 320,083,551 streams at the time of writing.

Their second most streamed song ‘Take It Easy’ has 101,447,884 listens on the app.

In recent years, streams on apps like Spotify have been taken into account when it comes to the official rankings.

The Greatest Hits album in question was released in 1976, and features their best songs from between 1971 and 1975.

Congratulations to them. Quite an incredible achievement.
