High praise indeed.
Music legend Elton John has labelled Fontaines DC as ‘the best band’ in the world right now.
The Irish band have gone from strength to strength since their first album ‘Dogrel’ back in 2019.
With the release of their fourth, and arguably most mainstream album yet, ‘Romance’, the post-punk rockers have reached a new level of success.
The band’s prolific career has even caught the eye of the musical icon Elton John himself.

Elton John says Fontaines DC are ‘the best band’ in the world right now
The ‘Rocketman’ icon was speaking to lead singer Grian Chatten as part of his Apple podcast ‘Rocket Hour’.
“For me, and I’ve watch you grow from album to album, have been the band that have progressed musically, lyrically, live, every single album,” he told the Skerries native.
“For me, you’re the best band out there at the moment, having watched you at Glastonbury, having heard the new album.
“You’ve just grown every album and you’ve seemed to have found your feet with this album.”
Grian said he feels the band is on a ‘comfortable footing’, explaining that he doesn’t feel like he is ‘chasing it with another record’ for the first time in their short career.
“I’m not anxious to get the next one done, I’m enjoying being in this one, you know?”
Elton was full of praise, saying that ‘Romance’ will take the band ‘to a different level’.
“I just think this is the album that breaks you through to the act that you always promised to be from a popularity standpoint and the music is just so great,” he said.
He added that the record is “going to stay around for a long, long time”.
Fontaines DC recently made headlines for the wrong reasons after their criticism of Oasis’ reunion prompted Liam Gallagher to have a pop back.
He wrote on X: “F**k them little sp**kbubbles I’ve seen better-dressed ROADIES.”
He followed up later with another post reading: “They look like a s**t EMF.”
He finished with a simple: “State of em.”
Grian later tried to smooth over relations by commenting on the original interview of band members Carlos O’Connell and Conor Deegan III saying they weren’t excited by the Oasis reunion to NME – saying: “I love Oasis. This is not my opinion.”
