Gardaí have asked people not to drive to Electric Picnic

Carl Kinsella

Gardaí have asked those travelling down to Electric Picnic to use public transport if at all possible.

The request, addressed to “patrons attending Electric Picnic”, was posted to the Garda Síochána Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

Electric Picnic, which kicks off on Friday, September 2, usually pulls in roughly 50,000 attendants – which would be an awful lot of traffic for Stradbally to handle if everybody drove down in their own car at once.

The Gardaí linked to the Transport for Ireland website, which details how festival-goers can get to Electric Picnic from various points around the country.

The site lists three bus services from Dublin and four from the rest of the country, including Bus Éireann services. The full list of possible transport to the festival can be seen here.

Parking at Electric Picnic is free for those who do drive down to the festival.
