WATCH: Irish ensemble’s classical interpretation of U2 anthem is spellbinding

Wow. Just wow.

JOE

u2 anthem

This is how you cover a U2 anthem.

Glen Austin is an Irish composer and music producer, whose group New Airs are making a pleasant habit out of recording unique versions of U2 classics.

Having previously covered With Or Without You, Austin and New Airs have just released their version of I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and it is hauntingly beautiful.

Whether you got along to Croke Park on Saturday night for the band’s The Joshua Tree tour or not, do yourself a favour and listen to this classic song, reimagined with cello quartet and percussion. The second song

This rendition of the second song on the iconic 1987 The Joshua Tree album was recorded in Smock Alley Theatre, with Rachel Voloczi on vocals.

Austin’s beautiful arrangement is played by cellists Martin Johnson, Polly Ballard, Katie Tertell and Anne Chauveau-Dhayan, with Rónán Scarlett on percussion.
