It is quite an iconic piece of clothing, in fairness.

Kurt Cobain’s stained, cigarette-burned cardigan that he wore during the iconic MTV “Unplugged” performance in 1993 has just sold for €301,430 at an auction in New York.

It has not been cleaned since he last wore it, over 25 years ago.

The person who sold it, Garrett Kletjian, bought the piece of clothing four years ago for roughly €150,000.

It has not been revealed who purchased the cardigan.

“This cardigan, it’s the holy grail of any article of clothing that he ever wore,” said Darren Julien, CEO and president of Julien’s Auctions.

“Kurt created the grunge look; he didn’t wear show clothes,” Julien told AFP at a New York exhibition preview.

And even though we are a huge fan of the concert, and of Cobain’s music in general, we don’t think we could spend that sort of money on any one item of clothing.

Not even an invisibility cloak

Cobain’s left-handed Fender Mustang guitar, which he used during the band’s “In Utero” tour, was also on sale, and it sold for over €350,000.
