Minaj - real name Onika Tanya Maraj - released her most recent album, Queen, in August of 2018, and is due to release her fifth studio album at some point in the next year.

This is now in doubt following an announcement to "retire" on Thursday.

In an extremely forward (while still somewhat cryptic) message posted on her Twitter page on Thursday night, the Queens native said that she was retiring to focus on her family.

The tweet read: "I’ve decided to retire and have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin' me, do it til da death of me. In the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE."

Despite her fans being absolutely heartbroken by the news, we'd recommend that it's taken with a pinch or two of salt.

Artist who "retire", very rarely actually retire. Especially when they are as young as Minaj, who is only 36 years old.

That being said, we will still use this news as an excuse to blast Super Bass again, because it's an absolute banger.
