Noel Gallagher finally explains why that lady was playing the scissors on stage

"I was looking at my bass player going 'If that’s not the greatest thing you’ve ever seen then tell me what is?'"

Paul Moore

Roll with it.

Excess and madness is just part of the rock and roll lifestyle, but Noel Gallagher made headlines last week when he appeared on Later… with Jools Holland for a very peculiar reason.

During his song, ‘She Taught Me How To Fly’, there was a girl in the background playing a blue pair of scissors and nobody really knew why.

Did it add anything to the sound? Are we entering a brave new world of scissor-inspired songs? Was Noel just having a laugh?

Anyways, it was definitely the main talking point of that performance.

Since this show aired, Liam Gallagher wasted no time in taking the mickey out of his older brother and the Wall of Glass and For What It’s Worth singer even managed to go one better during his recent performance at Bethnal Green.

Ladies and gents, peeling a potato is now a part of the concert-going experience. Some might say that it’s madness, but it’s all part of the masterplan that was instigated by Noel’s odd performance.

In a recent interview with i-D to promote his new album, Who Built the Moon?, Noel originally asked this French lady ‘Can you play the tambourine?’ and she said ‘I cannot play the tambourine.’

He added: ‘Oh, right. Shaker?’ to which she replied ‘Non. I can play the scissors.’

Things then get a little bit weirder.

“If you were from Peckham, you would be obliged to intellectualise it. You would be at the mercy of intellectualising it. I know what I’m doing. I’m not about to get on stage and play an arena with a bird in a cape playing the scissors unless it’s great. I’m not a f**king idiot. She brought them in and I was looking at my bass player going ‘if that’s not the greatest thing you’ve ever seen then tell me what is?’ A French bird in a cape playing the scissors? It doesn’t get any better than that does it?” he said.

Here’s more footage of Noel talking about the scissors.
