PIC: Definitive proof of Bruce Springsteen’s Irish heritage and the county of his ancestors

Paul Moore

He may have been ‘Born in the USA’ but his ancestors are from Ireland.

The Boss is back in town and we’re certain that quite a lot of the people that are heading to Croke Park this weekend were also in attendance at his memorable gig at Thomund Park from a few years ago.

In what was a brilliant performance, Springsteen downed a pint of beer in one, chatted to the crowd about his Irish roots and was even granted his very own Irish passport. Maybe they got it from the Irish EmBossy?

With this in mind, Tourism Ireland have done some research into The Boss’ Irish ancestry and it’s very interesting.

Research carried out by genealogists at the Irish Family History Centre has confirmed that before the Springsteens, Ireland had the Gerritys.

Christy Gerrity, from the parish of Rathangan in Co Kildare, was something of a hell-raiser as a young man – and he was the great-great-great-grandfather of none other than Bruce Springsteen himself. He left Ireland for New Jersey in 1853 – and the rest is history.

There you have it, we’re sure that the people in Kildare will be dancing in the dark with this news.
