Video: Irish rapping at it’s finest (seriously, it’s not that bad)…

If there are two things that rarely mix it's Irish people and rapping, but we have to admit this is a fairly decent shout from Cork's very own The Assassin.

JOE

If there are two things that rarely mix it’s Irish people and rapping, but we have to admit this is a fairly decent shout from Cork’s very own “The Assassin.”

From Zenith Media Productions and Off The Hook records comes the new video for The Assassin’s latest track, ‘Champion’. Now, if the track was absolutely sh*te we might rip the piss out of it, but in fairness to The Assassin, also known as Maurice Coveney, it’s a fairly decent effort. You can follow him on Twitter here. He seems to be going for the LL Cool J, circa early 90s vibe with the theme…

The video was obviously shot on a budget, but it incorporates everything the track is about and throws in a pretty tasty brunette too who we’re told goes by the name, Laura Tammy Gallen (she probably took up most of said budget). In it, we see a fairly mad looking opponent, a ref who spent too much (or not enough) time preparing for his role, and three judges who are clearly there for the boobs.

The only thing we’d change is the Rubberbandit-esque auto-tune that’s dropped straight onto of the chorus, but other than that the tune is not too bad. It’s certainly not the worst Irish rapping we’ve ever seen… to see that have a look on Henry Street in Dublin on a Saturday lunch time – seriously.

Hat tip to Eoin Allen for sending this our way…
