Prince fans might know that the Oscar-winning song was recorded live in one take and that he improvised the leadline off the top of his head, an indication of his supreme talent. The iconic anthem was ranked 143 in Rolling Stone’s Top 500 songs of all time and rightfully so, it’s an incredibly emotive, powerful and jaw-dropping piece of music.
Sinead O’Connor famously covered one of Prince’s tracks with ‘Nothing Compares 2U’ and an other Irish artist has just paid homage to Prince’s supreme talent, Gavin James.
He performed ‘Purple Rain’ on Tracy Clifford’s 2FM afternoon show and it’s absolutely wonderful.
