The latest vaccination figures have been released.

161,500 Covid vaccinations have been administered across Ireland thus far, the latest data has showed.

As of Wednesday night (27 January), 89,900 doses have been given out in front line health settings as well as 71,600 doses in long-term care settings such as nursing homes.

Thursday’s figures also showed that 13,800 frontline healthcare workers have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

On Sunday (24 January), the figures showed that 143,000 vaccines had been administered across Ireland, meaning 18,500 had been given out this week alone, up to Wednesday.

Ireland has administered more of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine than any other, though the exact breakdown is not currently available.

On Thursday, it was also revealed that Germany has recommended that the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine should not be approved for use in those over 65 years of age.

Ireland recently faced a “real setback”  with regards to the vaccine rollout with a reduction in the number of AstraZeneca vaccines, but Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has defended his prediction that every adult in Ireland would be offered by a vaccination by September of this year.

Speaking on Wednesday night, Leo Varadkar also said that there is a high probability it will happen.

In total, 50,000 people are expected to be vaccinated in Ireland this week.
