An official update…
Speaking at a lunchtime press conference, Minister for Education, Joe McHugh, confirmed that the 2020 Leaving Cert has been formally postponed.
The news that the Leaving Cert may be cancelled was widely circulated yesterday evening following a report by the Irish Times, but that is now not the case.
Instead, students can instead opt for “Calculated Grades”, with State certification.
Minister McHugh confirmed there will be an appeals process for these calculated grades, and all students will have the option to sit a written exam when it is safe to do so.
The Minister for Education and Skills has announced that Leaving Certificate 2020 is postponed and students are being offered a system of Calculated Grades, with State certification.
