SPOILERS: There has been a significant real-life development in the story of Making A Murderer

Carl Kinsella

The power of the internet.

Before Netflix’s documentary series Making A Murderer hit our screens last December, it’s highly unlikely that many, if any, Irish people could have told you the story of Steven Avery or Brendan Dassey.

However, it now seems as though the whole world is awake to the plight of the two men who were locked up after a trial that hinged on evidence that could be described as dodgy at best.

Avery will spend the rest of his life in prison without the option of parole. Dassey, who was 16 at the time of the crime, will be in jail until he is 59.

100,000 people have no signed the Change.org petition demanding Avery’s release (as well as Dassey’s), and 18,000 people have signed a White House petition asking for the same.

The petition can be signed here.
