The Dublin Airport Authority has a site reserved for a third terminal if necessary, but that is thought to be a more long-term consideration.
Aer Lingus and other airlines would rather that issues such as facilities for long haul and transfer passengers and aircraft parking be prioritised ahead of a potential third terminal.
Renovations on the main runway at Dublin Airport started this month and are expected to go on for another 15 months; on Monday, meanwhile, it was revealed that the Departures floor in Terminal 1 would be replaced as part of a €10 million upgrade project.
