You can’t always get what you want…
As things stand, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have picked up 57 seats of the 98 that have already been won. With Fine Gael on 28 and Fianna Fáil on 29, they are both far ahead of Sinn Féin who are in third with 13 seats.
As such, there is rampant speculation that the only two parties who could possibly form the next government will be Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael in a coalition.
However, despite their individual popularity compared to the other parties and independents, very few Irish voters want to see this coalition take place. According to RTÉ’s exit polls, only 13% of those asked want to see a FG/FF coalition.
According to the RTE exit poll fewer people (13pc) want a FF/FG coalition than actually voted for Sinn Féin (14pc) #ge16
