There’s only one 60th anniversary, so get on these before it’s too late.

Aer Lingus is celebrating sixty years of transatlantic flights on 28 April.

To mark the occasion, the airliner will be offering customers  €100 off direct flights from Shannon and Dublin to various destinations in the US and Canada.

This means that you will be able to fly from Dublin to Toronto for €189 euro, Dublin to Miami from €238 and from Shannon to New York or Boston from €238.

The fares are on an each-way basis as part of a return trip and include taxes, charges and admin fee.

If you’re stuck on deciding the destination, there isn’t any hurry, because the offer runs until 7 May.

The airliner has also been celebrating the anniversary by looking back at the Aerlínte Éireann Lockheed L1049 Super Constellation aircraft, which was the very first plane to fly to the US in 1958 with 99 passengers and a crew of 6.

Recalling her experience is 72-year-old Lily O’Connell, a former cabin crew member from Leopardstown.

“Becoming an ‘air hostess’ was my dream job, it was always my number 1.

“I remember the Americans on board coming to ‘I-R-Land’, as they called it. They were so excited to be meeting their Irish family connections for the first time.

“For Irish people flying home – they had saved for months for the airfare as they were so expensive back then so it was just lovely on board, everyone was in great spirits.”

The Aer Lingus offer will be valid on flights between 16 June and 31 October. For more information, head over to their website here.
