The county was ravaged by severe weather conditions this week.

Donegal was one of the worst areas affected by the torrential rain that fell in northern areas of the country on Tuesday night and the county has been counting the cost since.

Incredibly, two-thirds of the average rain for August fell in just nine hours on Tuesday, resulting in flash flooding in a number of areas and a giant sinkhole between Muff and Quigley’s Point.

What occurred in the region on Tuesday night has been described by Met Éireann as a ‘once in a hundred year event’.

Financial aid has already been promised to people affected by the floods in the country, while several roads, particularly in the Inishowen Peninsula, will require repair works following the damage caused by the conditions earlier this week.

Paul McMenamin provided JOE with aerial footage of the extent of the flooding in the county, showing hundreds of acres of farm land flooded under four to five feet of water after some of the worst weather experienced in the region in years.
