The collision involved a car and a female child pedestrian.

A female child is in critical condition after a car crash that occurred in Westmeath on Wednesday (22 April).

Shortly before 7.30pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on the L6821 at Killallon Road in Clonmellon.

The pedestrian, the female child, was airlifted to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

A Garda spokesperson said the girl's condition remains "critical".

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

"Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and were travelling in the area between 6.45pm and 7.45pm on Wednesday 22nd April 2026 are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí," a spokesperson said.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on (044) 9384000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
