Another PR disaster? Bizarre footage shows American Airlines flight attendant challenging passenger to a fight

Alan Loughnane

Shocking footage…

American Airlines have suspended a flight attendant after he squared up to a passenger at the front of the aircraft cabin.

On a Friday afternoon flight from San Francisco airport to Dallas-Fort Worth, the incident happened.

The video catches the aftermath of the row with the passenger saying that a mother was hit with a pram while it was forcibly removed from the cabin.

The footage shows the employee saying, “Hit me! Come on, bring it on”, when he was angrily confronted by another male passenger.

It was uploaded to Facebook by Surain Adyanthaya who said that the flight attendant “violently” took a stroller belonging to the woman, hitting her and just missing the baby.

In a statement, American Airlines said:

“We have seen the video and have already started an investigation to obtain the facts. What we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care for our customers. We are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger and her family and to any other customers affected by the incident. We are making sure all of her family’s needs are being met while she is in our care. After electing to take another flight, we are taking special care of her and her family and upgrading them to first class for the remainder of their international trip.

“The actions of our team member captured here do not appear to reflect patience or empathy, two values necessary for customer care. In short, we are disappointed by these actions. The American team member has been removed from duty while we immediately investigate this incident.”

American Airlines will be keen to avoid the unmitigated PR disaster which fell upon United Airlines recently when they forcibly removed a passenger from an overbooked flight.
