Apparently Gold deposits have been discovered in Cavan (seriously!)

There be gold in them there hills...

Alan Loughnane

Of all the places…

Cavan is not exactly the most famous place in Ireland and has, in the past, been overshadowed by some of its more glamorous neighbours like Louth, Leitrim and even Longford.

That could all be about to change for the Cavanites (this is a made up word by us to represent the Cavan people) if the Irish mining company, Conroy Gold, is right about their recent study.

Apparently the Slieve Glah area is highly prospective for gold mineralisation meaning that the people of Cavan could potentially be in for a dramatic change in their fortunes.

Unfortunately, the exploration is at an early stage and it will require much more testing and core samples to establish if there is a viable gold mine in the area.

That hasn’t stopped the people of Cavan however as they have erected gigantic billboards around the county inscribed with the words “What do you think of that Joe Brolly?!”*

So far, Mr Brolly has been unavailable for comment on the creation of the billboards. Mainly because we don’t have his phone number. Or pictures of the billboards.

*This statement is at unconfirmed and quite possibly (read: definitely) made up… by us.

Hat tip to the Irish Times.
