Three men arrested following €20,000 cannabis herb seizure in Portlaoise

The search operation took place last Thursday.

Three men have been arrested following an intelligence-led operation that took place in the Portlaoise area on Thursday 18 April.

Two properties were targeted and subsequently searched by Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit in Portlaoise Garda Station, the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, and Revenue’s Customs Service.

During this operation, Revenue officers seized approximately one kilogram of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €20,000.

In connection with this seizure, Gardaí arrested a 23-year-old Irish man, a 22-year-old Lithuanian man, and a 20-year-old Polish man.

All three were taken to Portlaoise Garda Station where they were detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996.

Investigations are ongoing.
