A man and a woman have died following a house fire in Co. Cavan, Gardaí have confirmed.
The incident, which occurred at a house in Ballyjamesduff, was reported in the early hours of Sunday morning (September 10), where emergency services attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
A man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s were pronounced dead at the scene.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place in due course.

In a statement to JOE, a Garda spokesperson said:
“Gardaí were alerted to a fire at a domestic residence in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan shortly before 2.00am on Sunday morning, 10th September 2023.”
They added that the scene of the fire is currently preserved for a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau and that the Coroner has been notified.
Gardaí also confirmed that investigations are currently ongoing.
