The latest Irish weather forecast makes for grim reading, with the unseasonably warm weather set to fast become a distant memory over the coming days.

In the North of the country, thunderstorms have been forecast by the UK Met Office. They are set to cause disruption over the course of Sunday afternoon and evening, beginning from 2pm that day.

The UK Met Office has also cautioned against the possibility of spot-flooding for homes and businesses, with lightning strikes, hail and strong winds all forecast.

The public has also been warned that public transportation services in the North may be disrupted by the weather, with cancellations to bus and train services a possibility due to potential power cuts.

Up to 70mm worth of rainfall could occur over the course of a few hours, with the Met Office bracing residents in the North for periods of intense downpours.

Weather warnings spell end of Indian summer:

For the rest of Ireland, Met Eireann has said to expect sunny spells and some scattered showers on Saturday, with highest temperatures between 21 and 26 degrees.

Warm and humid conditions could continue on into Sunday, before temperatures begin to fall as the day progresses. Monday will see cooler temperatures, with highs ranging from 15 to 19 degrees.

In addition to the thunderstorms in the North of the country, Met Eireann have said that scattered, slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms could bring a risk of spot flooding and lightning strikes on Sunday evening.

Although, there is good news for those in the Northwest, with coastal areas expected to remain largely dry apart from the occasional drizzle.

As for next week, Met Eireann’s forecast states, “Feeling cooler next week. Though there will be dry and sunny spells at times, rain or showers will affect the country each day.”
