10 further deaths and 200 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland

10 further deaths in connection with the Covid-19 coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland have been announced by the Department of Health as of Sunday evening. Six of the deaths are associated with the east of the country, three are associated with the northwest and one is associated with the south. The median age of Sunday's reported deaths is 77. Eight of the patients who died were male while two were female. 46 people have now died in the Republic in relation to the virus. 200 new cases of Covid-19 have also been confirmed in the Republic, bringing the total number of cases to 2,615. Over 33,000 people have been tested since Monday 16 March as the HSE works through a rate of 5,000 tests per day. On Sunday morning, HSE officials noted that while it is not known when the virus will peak in Ireland, they are planning towards mid-April. 88 patients are currently in ICU. On Sunday afternoon, Public Health Agency officials in Northern Ireland confirmed six further deaths in association with the virus alongside 86 new cases. 21 people have died to date and there are now 410 confirmed cases in Northern Ireland. 742 people have been tested to date. New regulations came into effect at 11pm on Saturday night in a bid to combat the outbreak. Combining the above figures with the latest from the Republic, there are now over 3,000 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus on the island of Ireland. To date, 67 people on the island of Ireland have died in connection with the virus. The global death toll has now surpassed 30,000. Worldwide cases have risen beyond 680,000 while over 145,000 patients are reported to have recovered.
