Households to be instructed to stay indoors for five days following confirmed Covid case

Covid household self isolation

The measure will apply to all persons affected, regardless of vaccination status.

An entire household will be expected to adhere to self-isolation measures if a confirmed case of Covid-19 arises within, according to new guidelines set to be issued by Government on Tuesday.

The news follows the reintroduction of a midnight curfew for the hospitality sector amidst a prolonged rise in Covid cases throughout the country.

According to reports, in the case of a household having to self-isolate for five days, this practice will apply irrespective of the vaccination status of the affected individuals.

It is expected that households will be asked to prioritise the restricting of movements as opposed to committing to full isolation, particularly with regards to the needs of children being taken into account.

However, the overall message from Government appears to be that in the event of a positive Covid case occurring within the home, all residents will be asked to remain indoors where possible.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is expected to address the public on later on Tuesday.

The latest guidelines follow an announcement that the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) will be further reduced this week.

Those who are currently on €300 will have their payments reduced to €250, and those who had been receiving €250 will now receive €203.

Anyone under €203 will no longer be on the PUP, and will be receiving the standard jobseekers allowance instead.

At its peak, there were 602,100 people receiving the PUP in May of 2020.

There are now 74,752 people on the plan according to numbers released by the government last week.
