Daniel Kinahan Set To Return To Ireland To Face Trial

Kinahan was arrested in Dubai in April on foot of a warrant issued by the Irish courts in relation to alleged serious organised crime offences. At the time, Dubai Police described him as an “Irish fugitive” held for his alleged role in an international organised crime network. His appeal against extradition has now failed.

What the Daniel Kinahan extradition means

The development follows the return of Kinahan associate Sean McGovern, who pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to directing a criminal organisation. Ireland and the United Arab Emirates established a bilateral extradition treaty in 2024, which came into effect in May last year, paving the way for alleged Irish crime figures to be brought home.

At McGovern’s Special Criminal Court hearing, the court heard the Kinahan group operates at an international level, importing drugs and distributing them at street level, enforcing its control “by violence, using firearms”.

Kinahan is now anticipated to arrive back in Dublin in the coming weeks to answer the charges against him. Follow the latest Irish news for further updates.
