“We have tried everything to keep our business going”
A popular Dublin restaurant loved by the late Anthony Bourdain has officially closed its doors this week.
The Chophouse restaurant in Ballsbridge was once hailed by the celebrity chef as where he had “the best f**king meal I’ve ever eaten in Dublin”.
Owners, Kevin and Jillian Arundel shocked customers by announcing the sudden closure, saying that they ‘tried everything’ to keep the business afloat, but rising costs forced its closure.
The closure follows a series of high-profile restaurants shutting down in the capital, with chef Dylan McGrath announcing he was closing Brasserie Sixty6 and Rustic Stone last month.

“It is with immense sadness that today, we announce the closure of our much-loved restaurant in Ballsbridge, after 15 years,” a post on social media began.
“We pay tribute to our amazing team who have been so loyal and provided an amazing service to every customer who dined with us.
“We will miss our gorgeous customers, many who became close friends over the years.
“Great times were had, weddings, births, romances, business deals, family celebrations, rugby wins and losses, concerts and much more.
“We have tried to keep our business going, but the constantly rising costs have finally made it impossible to keep our doors open!
“To EVERYONE over the last 15 years — THANK YOU! Kevin and Jillian xx.”
Many customers spoke of their shock over the announcement and paid tribute to the service of the restaurant in the local community over the past 15 years.
“Omg I’m actually devastated! What a restaurant!” said one commenter.
Another said: “Very sorry to hear this, one of the nicest spots in Dublin. Best of luck to you all in your future endeavours.”
A third added: “Really sad to hear this, we have been going for years and one of our favourite restaurants to go to. Best wishes to all the staff who are the friendliest staff around.”
Irish broadcaster Maia Dunphy said: “I’m gutted to hear this Kevin. It’s a massive loss to our little neighbourhood. Wishing you all the very best with whatever comes next for you.”
