Three car crash near Dublin Tunnel causing major delays for morning commuters

Stephen Porzio

Traffic is said to be moving ‘extremely slowly’.

A crash that happened near the Dublin Tunnel this morning has caused major delays for morning commuters, according to reports.

In a post on Twitter on Friday morning (20 September), the Dublin City Council Traffic & Incident Management Centre (DCCTraffic) explained that the collision had occurred on the Swords Road inbound after the tunnel and just before Collins Avenue.

Gardaí, meanwhile, told JOE that the crash involved three cars and took place at around 7am. No injuries have been reported at this time.

DCCTraffic also stated that the crash was blocking the right lane and advised commuters to take care upon approach.

Reporting on the traffic impacts of the incident, LiveDrive said the collision happened between the tunnel and the flyover in the right lane and that it had caused traffic to move extremely slowly, as it had tailed back before the tunnel.

In a later update, it said the road inbound before the flyover was completely blocked as Gardaí and emergency services dealt with the collision.

LiveDrive also advised Ballymun – which was moving well – as a travel alternative for commuters.

In its third – and most recent at the time of writing – post about the crash this morning, the live travel update service said the left lane on Swords Road inbound had reopened at the scene of the collision but that the right lane remained closed.

It also warned that traffic was passing “extremely slowly”.

Gardaí also told JOE: “The road remains open and delays are expected.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
