€100,000 in cash seized at Dublin Airport after being discovered in hand luggage

A separate Revenue seizure in County Laois took in €150,000 worth of tobacco and alcohol.

Revenue officers seized €100,000 in cash during a search at Dublin Airport.

The cash, suspected “to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in” criminal activity, was discovered on Wednesday when a man and a woman were stopped for inspection.

The man, who is in his 40s, and the woman, who is in her 30s, were stopped while travelling to Budapest via Dusseldorf.

Upon conducting their search, Revenue officers found €100,000 in cash in the pair’s hand luggage.

A three-month cash detention order was subsequently granted at Dublin District Court.

In a separate seizure, tobacco and alcohol were retrieved from a house in Durrow, County Laois following an official search.

The tobacco (over 10kgs worth) had an estimated retail value of €109,000 while the alcohol seized (over 1,960 litres) amounted to an estimated €41,000.

A man in his 30s was questioned at the scene.
