The flight was travelling from Alicante to Manchester.

It's been revealed that the EasyJet flight which was forced to divert to a major UK airport was due to a medical emergency on board.

This morning, flight U25521 from Alicante to Manchester declared an emergency while flying over the southern British coast.

The flight was diverted to Gatwick airport due to the emergency.

The plane landed in London Gatwick around 8.30am following a mid-air medical emergency.

A spokesperson for the airline said:“Flight EZY5521 from Alicante to Manchester today, 25 May, has been required to divert to London Gatwick, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.

“The passenger was met in London Gatwick by medical services and the flight is planned to continue to Manchester.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”

This incident comes only weeks after a flight from Tenerife to Liverpool landed early in an airport in norther Spain due to another medical emergency.
