Warning issued after drugs which are ‘causing fits’ discovered at Electric Picnic

The HSE has issued new advice for those attending the major Irish music festival taking place this weekend.

A drug warning has been issued by the HSE after high strength MDMA which is “causing medical emergencies” was discovered at the currently ongoing Electric Picnic.

Electric Picnic is taking place at Stradbally in Laois this weekend and, as has been the case in previous iterations of the music festival, the HSE Safer Nightlife Harm Reduction Programme is providing drug harm reduction services at the event.

On the Friday night of the festival, the health service took to social media with the following warning:

“High strength MDMA pills are in circulation at Electric Picnic. These are causing medical emergencies, including fits.

“It’s safer not to use drugs at all but if you do #StartlowGoslow, mind yourself and care for others.”

The HSE also said: “Treat all pills, powders and crystals with caution.

“Don’t be afraid to get medical help if you or a friend feels unwell after using drugs.”

Electric Picnic also re-shared the warning on its own social media.

In an another post on Friday, the HSE stated that its tents and medical tents at Electric Picnic are “health led spaces”.

“They are not monitored and are safe for people to come and surrender drugs. Chat to our staff to find out more, pop in to see the tents,” it also said.
