The airline have released a statement.

A transatlantic flight made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport on Friday morning after reports that smoke was seen onboard. Virgin Atlantic flight VS-50A was travelling from Orlando, Florida to Gatwick Airport in England but it had to make an unscheduled stop at Shannon. The Airbus A330-300 jet spent an hour on the tarmac in Ireland and a Virgin Atlantic spokesman said: “Our flight VS1050 from Orlando to London Gatwick has diverted to Shannon as a precautionary measure after reports of smoke onboard. "The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and we’re now working hard to get our customers to their final destination as quickly as possible. We'd like to apologise for the disruption to their journey and thank them for their patience." The flight contained more than 200 passengers and after leaving the aircraft, they were taken to the airport’s transit lounge where they're waiting on news of their re-arranged flight. The airline confirmed the news via Twitter. https://twitter.com/VirginAtlantic/status/1027818170629931009 https://twitter.com/VirginAtlantic/status/1027819173940998146
