Around 30 people were forced to evacuate the area last night.
A viable explosive device was found outside a pub in Drogheda on Tuesday night, 9 January.
Gardaí were called to the pub, close to the junction of Chord Road and Constitution Hill, at around 9pm.
The pub and several homes were evacuated during the security alert.
The Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the scene at 11.40pm, with bomb disposal experts making the device safe.
The device was later moved to the Curragh Army Camp for further investigation. It has since been declared a viable improvised explosive.
A Garda spokesperson said: “At approximately 9pm on 9 January 2018, Gardaí in Drogheda were called to a suspect device at a public house in Drogheda.
“It has been established that the device was viable. Investigations are continuing.”
