The man was arrested on Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has confirmed that a man in his 50s was arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with an incident in Strokestown, Roscommon last month.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested after an investigation at Killoe in Longford. He is currently being held at Castlerea Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939. He is the fifth person to be arrested in connection with the incident.

In December, a group armed with baseball bats stormed the house at Falsk, near Strokestown, from which a family had been evicted days earlier, beating the security personnel inside. Eight people were injured in the attack, three of whom required treatment in hospital.

Four vehicles were also burned out and one dog was killed during the 16 December incident.

Separately, two KBC banks were also targeted, leading to Garda investigations of criminal damage at two locations in Dublin.

The eviction and its aftermath were the subject of much discussion in December of last year. The McGann family, the family who were forcibly removed from the house, issued a statement discouraging anyone from violence.
