The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall.
Fisher-Price have recalled nearly five million infant sleepers after more than 30 babies died in them over a 10-year period.
The recall was announced by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Friday.
On the CPSC website, the commission said at least 30 infants had died in the sleeper model since its 2009 release.
In a statement, Chuck Scothon, general manager at Fisher-Price, said: “In recent days, questions have been raised about the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper. We stand by the safety of our products.
“However, due to reported incidents in which the product was used contrary to the safety warnings and instructions, we have decided to conduct a voluntary recall.”
The exact cause of the deaths is not known, but the baby toy and equipment manufacturer and the commission said that they had occurred when the babies in them rolled over to their stomachs whilst unrestrained.
The recall is thought to cover about 4.7m sleepers, which were sold for between $40 and $149 over the past ten years.
