In the past few hours Europe was treated to a rare partial eclipse (the 'partial' bit is important).

If you were lucky enough to find a patch of clear sky this morning then you may have witnessed the rare partial eclipse that took place Europe. Those of you who did see the eclipse are probably wondering why it was a 'partial' eclipse and not a 'full' eclipse. And judging by this totally legit newspaper clipping, some of you were incredibly p*ssed off that you didn't get to see a full eclipse. Well, according to NASA, “During the morning of March 20, 2015, a total solar eclipse will be visible from the Faroe Islands, located northwest of Scotland, and the Svalbard Islands, located east of Greenland. “At the same time, surrounding regions of Europe, northern Africa and northern Asia will be treated to a partial solar eclipse.” This handy little .GIF shows us the path that the eclipse followed over Europe and Africa... As per the NASA website: “The animated image shows the path of the March 20, 2015 solar eclipse. The blue, half-oval, shadow shows the regions where a partial eclipse will be visible.
