This is a new one on us.
Normally, when we report the Garda Traffic team stop and seizing vehicles, they are cars or vans or the likes, for a numerous list of reasons.
For example, this van with a laundry list of illegalities going on, or do you remember this one, with no licence but loads of extra drugs on board?
Or this one, with the open bottle of wine in the cup holder?
Or maybe this one, because the driver was committing one of the worst speeding offences of the year?
Our point is, we’ve never seen the Garda report on stopping and seizing a motorised bicycle before, but we suppose there is a first time for everything, especially when that first time has a huge amount of potentially life-threatening problems.
First of all, they caught the vehicle going 62km/h on a main road, which might not sound like the end of the world by itself, until you find out that there was no front light on the bike, and the driver was wearing all dark clothing, with no helmet and no hi-viz.
At night.
Additionally, there was no insurance, no registration, and no driving licence, all of which you need for a motorised bicycle, in case you were unaware.
One last thing though, and this is for the Garda themselves: maybe invest in a photo app that doesn’t leave the watermark on the main image? Just a thought…
