Three arrests were made on Thursday morning.

An Garda Síochána have confirmed that three people have been arrested in relation to the abduction of Quinn Industrial Holdings director Kevin Lunney.

Mr. Lunney was kidnapped on 17 September this year, and told BBC Spotlight that he was tortured by a group of people, sustaining knife wounds, a broken leg, and having the letters ‘QIH’ carved into his skin.

As of Thursday morning (14 November), a man in his 20s and another man in his 40s are being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, which covers the crime of false imprisonment. Additionally, a woman in her 50s has been arrested under Section 30 of Offences Against The State Act, 1939.

Searches related to the investigation were carried out in Cavan, Longford and Dublin.

Today’s arrests follow the death of the main suspect in the abduction. Cyril McGuinness took ill while his house in Derbyshire was being searched last Friday and was later confirmed to have died of a heart attack.

Last week, it was announced that 100 additional Gardaí would aid the investigation team at Cavan Garda Station. The investigation is also being assisted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, and police in England.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to any person who has any information, no matter how insignificant it appears, on this vicious criminal attack or any other criminal activities which have taken place in the Cavan/Fermanagh border area over recent years, to contact An Garda Síochána at Cavan Garda Station on 049 4368800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, Crime Stoppers on 1800 25 00 25 or any Garda Station.
