A 12-year-old girl has died after she got into difficulty while swimming in Co Tipperary.
It is understood that this was due to strong currents.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4:20 pm.
The 12-year-old girl was transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH) by the Irish Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter after being recovered from the water at around 4:45 pm.

It is understood that she was from Newcastle and was known locally.
She had just finished sixth class at Scoil Mhuire National School in Newcastle.
According to RTÉ, the other girl involved managed to make it to land. She was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel, but did not sustain serious injuries.
