Google has abandoned plans to rent a 202,000 sq ft office space in Dublin’s Docklands for 2,000 employees.

The company had entered talks in late 2019 to rent the Sorting Office, a seven-storey office block being developed in the Dublin docklands area.

However, a Google spokesperson confirmed to JOE that this plan would not be proceeding, confirming an earlier report on the matter from Bloomberg.

“After much deliberation, Google has decided not to proceed with leasing the Sorting Office,” a spokesperson said.

“We are grateful to Mapletree for all their work with us, and wish them well in the successful letting of this excellent office building.

“We are committed to Ireland and continue to invest in our Irish operations,” the spokesperson said.

Google currently has a work from home policy in place due to the global pandemic and recently extended this policy for most of its workers until July 2021.

The company currently employs around 8000 people in Ireland.
