Gardaí called after ice cream van smashes through church gates in Kerry

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Gardaí in Kerry were called to the scene of an incident at St Johns Church, Tralee at approximately 9.30pm last night when an ice cream van collided with the gates and entrance of the church.

No one was injured.

The vehicle failed to remain at the scene and was stopped by Gardaí minutes later at Gallowsfield, Tralee.

The driver of the ice cream van, a man in his late 50s was arrested by Gardaí and taken to Tralee Garda station.

An imitation firearm was also recovered.

The arrested man underwent medical assessment at Tralee Garda Station and has since been detained under the Mental Treatment Act.
