WATCH: Instead of sleeping these Irish students raised €10k in one night

Rosanna Cooney

Sleep is for the weak

In 24 hours DCU students have raised almost €10,00o for the Peter McVerry trust, a charity which helps those who are homeless.

The DCU media production society have been broadcasting live for 24 hours, in order to keep the donations rolling in.

They even pulled together a pretty spectacular corridor musical rendition of Do You Hear the People Sing?  from Les Mis.

Every year the Media Production society do a 24 hour live broadcast and this year they chose to donate the money raised to the Peter McVerry trust.

The society recently produced this video which is one student, Laura Horan’s, personal account of homelessness. It’s really worth watching to understand how easily homelessness can happen.

Even though they’ve reached their target the students still have a few hours to go, you can watch their live broadcast here and donate here.

Kudos to all involved, staying awake is always more fun than lying in a dark room unconscious, right?
