Research by Kantar Worldpanel has revealed that Supervalu has the largest share of Ireland’s grocery market, with 24.7%.

The study took into account the first three months of 2016 and found that Supervalu came out on top, with Tesco in second place with a 23.9% share of the market. They narrowly pipped Dunnes, who come in third with 23.5%.

Researcher further confirmed that trips to the shops are on the up and up compared to last year, with Supervalu shoppers visiting 22 times so far this year on average compared to 20 times in the same period in 2015.

According to RTÉ, German supermarket Lidl is growing at the fastest rate, with a dramatic 9.5% increase in sales compared to this period for the previous year.

We’re willing to bet that the early Easter, coupled with the centenary celebrations, have helped matters for supermarkets across the country.
