Irish people will not be exempt from UK’s plans to get rid of foreign workers

The Home Office of the United Kingdom have confirmed that Irish people will not be exempt from the Conservative governments recently announced proposal to compile a list of foreign workers.

In her speech at this year's Conservative Party Convention, Home Secretary Amber Rudd floated the idea that businesses and schools would be required to gather information on which of their employees are foreign-born or non-nationals in an effort to curb and control immigration into Great Britain, and prevent foreign-born people from "taking the jobs that British people can do." The proposal has been met with widespread revulsion on social media, with many commentators comparing the labelling of foreign people with the Star of David that Jewish people were forced to wear in Nazi Germany. When contacted by Irish media outlet The Journal, the UK Home Office confirmed that this proposal would initially apply to non-EU foreign-nationals before comprehensively including all non-British workers working in Britain. A spokesperson for the UK Government reportedy refused to exempt Irish people from the measure.
