Met Éireann confirmed that yesterday – Monday June 5 – was the hottest day of the year so far as the country enjoys a long spell of warm weather.

The forecaster stated that Shannon Airport recorded a temperature high of 25.7C, with Mount Dillon in Roscommon hitting 25.5C and Newport in Co Mayo at 24.6C.

The good news is that it looks like the hot weather will continue this week and into the weekend, according to Met Éireann’s national outlook. However, there looks to be some rain on the horizon and is expected to move up from the South towards the end of the week.

Today, Tuesday the 6th, will reach temperatures of about 20 to 25 degrees, but some cloud cover and a light easterly breeze will keep it a little cooler along the east coast with highs of just 17 to 21 degrees.

Take a look below at the forecast for the rest of the week.

Wednesday:

Tomorrow will be dry and sunny. Highest temperatures of 19 to 25 degrees generally, but again it will be cooler in the east due to a light to moderate easterly breeze, keeping highest temperatures there around 15 to 18 degrees.

Dry with long clear spells at night. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in a light easterly breeze.

Thursday:

Remaining dry and sunny, with the sunshine turning hazy at times. Highest temperatures ranging 16 to 24 degrees east to west, with a light to moderate easterly breeze.

Mostly dry during the night with clear spells. Cloud will thicken in the south and southwest overnight, with patchy light rain or drizzle possible in the southwest by morning. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 14 degrees in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

Friday:

Most places will see another dry and sunny day on Friday. It will turn cloudier at times and showers are possible in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 17 to 25 degrees, warmest in the west, with a light to moderate easterly wind continuing.

Mostly dry throughout the night with clear spells. Becoming cloudy in the south and southwest with rain or showers developing later. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees with a light easterly wind.

Saturday:

Cloud and showery rain is likely to extend northwards over the country on Saturday. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees with a light to moderate east to southeast wind.
